Does your waterbed look like the picture above? If it does, you have what is known as a softside waterbed. Softside water beds look just like a conventional box spring and mattress but, if you unzip or flip off the quilted top, you will find a waterbed bladder or set of water tubes sitting inside of a foam perimeter. The foam perimeter of the soft side waterbed is known as foam rails. There should be a vinyl safety liner covering the foam rails and you may or may not have a heater under the safety liner. Some soft side water beds have heaters and some do not. If there is a lot of padding in the form of a foam pad under the quilted top, or a very thick pillow top, a heater will not be necessary and you probably wouldn't even feel the heat if you had one. Because softside waterbeds usually have less water depth than hardside waterbeds, if you use a waterbed heater, you will need to use a low watt waterbed heater. We offer low watt water bed heaters and softside waterbed liners below.
